Biology

Hoppip is a dandelion-like Pokémon. It is round and pink, with leaves growing from its head that allow it to fly. Hoppip and its evolutionary line are able to be blown away and carried over large distances by strong winds. Skiploom is the evolution of Hoppip, and evolves into Jumpluff.

Design & origin

Hoppip's English name is a combination of "hop" and "pip". The Hoppip line is meant to demonstrate how pollen and seeds spread via the air, and is based on the stages of a dandelion, with Hoppip resembling the leaves. The line's names were partially created by English translator Nob Ogasawara, with the first half of their names referencing the idiom "hop, skip, and a jump".
