Biology

Blaziken is the evolved form of Combusken, which evolves from Torchic. It is a chicken-like Pokémon that stands on two legs. It has primarily red feathers with yellow feathers on its legs and chest, as well as hair-like feathers on its head.

Every few years, it sheds its feathers, and new ones grow in their place. Blaziken is capable of attacking with kicks and punches, and can blow fire from its wrists and ankles to burn its foes. Its leg muscles allow it to jump over a 30-story building.

Design & origin

Blaziken was the first design created for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, with artist Ken Sugimori intending to see if people would accept a humanoid Pokémon. It was also intended to be seen as an ugly Pokémon, meant to reference colored chicks growing up to become "something fierce and hard to look at".

An earlier design combined elements of Blaziken and Latias; a sprite leaked in 2024 showed it was a separate, scrapped Pokémon named "Elhawk".

Parts of its fiery, hot legs have blackened due to Mega Evolving: it gains black feathers on its legs, losing its yellow feathers. It also has flames streaming from its wrists.
