Biology
Snorlax is a large, obese Pokémon with a bluish-green body and a white circle-shaped belly, white feet and face, notable for constantly sleeping. It is carefree about everything, and it will allow children to play on its vast belly while it sleeps all day. After eating around 900 pounds of food, it goes to sleep for a while.
Thanks to its extremely strong digestive juices, its stomach can dissolve any kind of poison, so it is said to be able to eat nearly anything with little to no side-effects, such as thorny plants or Muk's poison. Snorlax evolves from the Pokémon Munchlax, which also sports a voracious appetite.
Design & origin
Snorlax was inspired in behavior and appearance by veteran Pokémon game designer Kōji Nishino, who had a habit of eating heavily then going to sleep. This earned Nishino the nickname "Kirby" by Game Freak's staff, which served as the basis for the Japanese name, "Kabigon"; an earlier design, nicknamed "Kabiin", bears similarities to Nishino.
Localizer Bill Giese based the English name, a portmanteau of "snore" and "lax", off of the esquilax from The Simpsons; localizer Sara Bush remembered it as combining "lackadaisical" and "snore".
Forms
Gigantamax Snorlax
When Gigantamaxed, Snorlax grows significantly larger. As it sleeps on its back, a tree and grass grow on its belly, resembling an island; these have grown from seeds that fell from the plants it had eaten. Its signature G-Max Move is G-Max Replenish.
