Biology
Gengar is a round, ghost-like being that evolves from the Pokémon Gastly and Haunter. Standing 4 feet 11 inches (150 cm) tall, it has a round purple body, short arms and legs, two red eyes, and a perpetual toothy grin. Along its back are multiple spikes, ending in a small tail.
Gengar seeps into the shadows of people and Pokémon to scare them for fun or eat their life force. A sudden chill of 10 °F or cooler may be a Gengar trying to curse someone. Gengar will lurk in whatever dark corner of a room it can find and wait for its chance to catch its prey.
It likes to attack people in mountains. Sometimes, Gengar will pose as people's shadows. It apparently wishes for a traveling companion; since it may have once been human, it tries to create one by taking the lives of other humans.
Design & origin
Created by Ken Sugimori, Gengar was one of the earliest Pokémon designed during the planning stages of Red and Blue, back when the games were intended to be called Capsule Monsters. Its design went through multiple iterations, with its body changed to a solid color and its teeth changed from singular fangs to a long solid row of teeth.
As the series progressed, its body became smoother and rounder, changes often attributed to its anime appearances.
Forms
Mega Gengar becomes significantly larger, with its legs embedded into the ground and its spikes more pronounced. Its arms become longer, with the forearms also embedded into the ground, and a gold-colored third eye appears upon its forehead.
Part of its body is in another dimension. Waiting for an opportunity to strike, it will try to kill anyone and everyone, even those it loves and trusts.
Gigantamax Gengar
Resembling a typical haunted house inflatable decoration, Gigantamax Gengar emerges waist-deep from the ground with a massive gaping mouth that has a swirling vortex, while its lengthened arms extend from the ground on both sides of it. It is theorized that its mouth leads to the afterlife instead of inside its body. Its signature G-Max Move is G-Max Terror.
